This is an original color lithograph, as it appeared in Vanity Fair magazine. It is a caricature of Henry Herbert, 4th Earl of Carnarvon. It was printed and released Sept 11, 1889.

This color litho still has several pages of the magazine attached to it. These pages include articles about Lord Carnarvon (whose eldest son would later discover King Tut's tomb!); Harriet Beecher Stowe and Lord and Lady Byron; British, Irish, American, and Cuban politics; other notables of the day; and social gossip about the upper crust in London. There are also several advertisements for everything from cherry toothpaste, to dietary aides, to furniture polish. It is a very interesting snapshot of a moment in history.

The pages were at one time all taped together, and the whole lot taped onto the back of a matte for framing. We have removed as much of the tape as possible without damaging the paper. What remains is a line of tape that goes all the way around the edge of the page that is the reverse side of the bundle of pages from the lithograph. Please see pictures for clarification.

There are a total of ten pages of text, as well as the color lithograph of the caricature of Lord Carnarvon. The lithograph is in good condition, although there is some foxing and staining around the edges of the page. There is no text on the back of the lithograph, so it would be possible to separate it from the rest and frame it, while retaining all the other magazine pages as they are.

This piece comes to you in good pre-owned condition, with the main condition issue being the tape left behind by a previous owner.
